Shallows: spalted beech and mermaid resin serving / display board

A long board of spalted beech (56 x 20cm), its live edge running the full length beside a band of mermaid resin, a pale sea blue with pearly ripples like sunlight on shallow water. The spalting has drawn dark, wandering lines all over the beech, and the growth rings curve round one end where the board was cut close to the heart of the tree. At 56cm, it's made for a run of cheeses or charcuterie down the middle of the table, and it's just as striking on the wall between parties.

Finished with Odie's oil: a food-safe, solvent-free wood finish that nourishes and protects both wood and resin, bringing out the natural beauty in every curve and swirl.
