Meet the maker
I started woodworking by accident during lockdown in 2021 and never quite stopped. A year later I was on Channel 4’s Britain’s Best Woodworker, building a tango-inspired dining table against the clock, which is one way to learn fast.
I’m self-taught and work from my workshop in Kent, mostly in oak, elm, ash and yew, with the odd slab of walnut or olive and resin when a piece calls for it. The wood always comes first. The grain, the cracks and the wild edges decide what a board becomes, and my job is to make it properly useful.
I have ADHD, and the workshop is where my head goes quiet.
Every piece is a one-off. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
Beautifully useful. Unapologetically art.
